One of the most common things that we hear at Houston Gym is that people have set the goal of working towards their summer body. Now, of course, this is a great goal! This is one that we understand people love being able to show off and enjoy during the warmer months. However, the one thing that we do see a trend of is people working incredibly hard during those cooler months, and letting themselves go during the summer.

Now, we get it, it’s hard. There are countless weekends spent grilling and those days at the pool with a beer in your hand. Inevitably, you’re going to give in. This is all good and fine as long as it’s in moderation. The same goes for backing off of workouts. Summer weekends seem to be much more difficult to get up early on then the numerous fall and spring winters that we’ve faced.

Today we wanted to go over two things that make focusing on your health during the summer, fun.

Out of the Box Exercise

There are very few people that enjoy running on a treadmill or getting up at 5 a.m. to lift some weights. One of our favorite things about the summer weather is that there are plenty of ways to get physical activity in without having to physically be at the gym. Of course, the multiple classes that we offer, personal trainers and top of the line equipment will always be here when you come in, but on the days where the gym is sounding extra dreadful, consider participating in an activity where you can enjoy yourself outside. There are plenty of opportunities like swimming, running, cycling or even joining a sports league team in your local area.

By spending some time on your days off to give yourself a break from the gym, while maintaining your physical activity, you are prioritizing your health in a way that you enjoy and making the most of the summer. This is one of the best things that you can do to ensure that you don’t wind up getting burnt out. And who knows, you might just find a passion in one of the activities that you pick up.

Fresh, In-Season Fruit & Vegetables

There has never been a doubt about how beneficial having fruits and vegetables in your meal plan is. The downside to this is that there are lots of fruits and vegetables that are expensive throughout the year because they’re out of season. Well, now that summer is here, you can take advantage of all the fresh fruit and veggies you’d like. Whether you stop by your local grocery store and make the most of the bargains they have going on there, or you decide to take a stroll through your local farmer’s market, you’ll see that the prices of fresh, in season fruit and vegetables have dropped.

At Houston Gym, we want to make sure that you stick with your goals regardless of the season. Make sure to check back for the blog in the next couple of weeks covering activities that can keep you moving this summer!
