Fun Ways to Keep Busy This Summer

June 28, 2017

In our last blog post, we mentioned how not wanting to go to the gym is a familiar thought to cross the mind, especially in summer when you could be out and about enjoying the weather. Today we really wanted to focus on a few fun activities that you could enjoy this summer, that would also provide you with the physical activity that you need to maintain your goals. Here are a few of our team favorites.

Swimming

This is easily one of the most common activities for people to partake in during the summer, but it’s also one of the most beneficial. Swimming is known for being a full body workout, challenging each part of your body to partake. Whether you’re swimming laps or simply moving around in the water, you are challenging your body to work through the resistance and pressure of the water. This is a fantastic option for someone that is looking for cardio that is gentle on the joints, and one that truly allows for you to soak in the summer sun.

Hiking

If you’re looking for an activity that can prove to be even easier on your joints than swimming, hiking is a fantastic option. This is a great choice for people who are looking to build endurance or are just looking for some time to quiet their mind. The gym can get loud, especially with people putting in their work. If you’re looking for a day off to stay active, but keep quiet, hiking is a fantastic option.

If it is your first time going on a hike, make sure that you’re properly prepared for what to expect. This is definitely an activity that can prove to be dangerous if you don’t know the area, or you don’t know what to expect. Make sure to travel with a friend just to be safe.

Sports

Are you an athlete in every sense of the word? There are plenty of chances for you to get a little bit active this summer, if so. Here in Houston, there are plenty of parks that offer full courts for you and your friends to play on. Whether it be basketball, tennis, or some flag football, chances are that you can find enough people interested to start a league, participate in a league, or even just enjoying a game.

If you want to enjoy this on a low-key level, consider just practicing a portion of the sport. If you’re into baseball, head to the batting cage and play until you’re tired. If you’re into soccer, bring a ball to a nearby park and work on your footwork or kicking the ball into the net.

Even the smallest bit of exercise is benefiting your life, and when you partake in activities like these you are truly providing yourself with the passion that a healthy lifestyle requires. The moment that you realize you can find answers in activities that you love, the less of a task working out and eating healthy become.

As always, we hope that you’ll stop by and visit us here at Houston Gym. If you’re ever in need of assistance with scheduling a class or working with a personal trainer, we would be more than happy to help!
