Foods for Being Active – Part 1

June 1, 2016

We’ve all heard the phrase, “You are what you eat.” It’s usually used in a condemning context, to convince ourselves not to eat something unhealthy. Let’s try flipping that context and looking at the bright side: if you are what you eat, you have the opportunity to be the best. How’s that for motivation?

That being said, you shouldn’t go out and purchase everything healthy that you can find. Instead, you need a strategy. At Houston Gym, we work hard to create an environment for people to pursue fitness. If they aren’t fueled correctly, they can’t take advantage of our facility. That is why we are going to use the next few blogs to talk about some foods that are particularly good for doing what we love best: being active!

Olive Oil

Want to feel fuller after a meal? Olive oil contains healthy monounsaturated fat that boosts your serotonin levels. Serotonin works in your blood levels to make you feel satisfied. It’s a great way to boost the health of your cuisine and the experience you get out of it.

Legumes and Lentils

Need protein you can depend on? Beans and lentils provide muscle-building protein in spades. Just one cup of these guys provides 12 to 18 grams of protein. You also get fiber-based carbohydrates that digest slowly and prevent your blood sugar from spiking. If you don’t like eating them plain, add them to salads or chili.

Houston Gym is proud to provide a place where anyone can pursue their fitness goals. Contact our fitness center to learn more!
