Fitness is Not a Destination it is a Way of Life

Fitness trackers help trainers see all

June 26, 2014

Gone are the days when one could “relax” fitness behavior in the hours away from the gym. Put in a few hours with a trainer, running and lifting at the gym, then undo some of the progress in the days that follow.

More and more trainers are using fitness trackers to monitor the work their clients put in between sessions.27257678_S

A little too “big brother” for you? It’s the best way trainers can hold clients accountable. More importantly, it’s the best way for clients to help keep themselves accountable.

Devices such as Fitbit, Nike’s FuelBand and the Jawbone Up bracelet allow trainers to follow a client’s activity and make sure they are creating a workout program that will earn results.

“If you’re going to use data to prescribe a program, you need as good data as possible,” Kelvin Everitt, Sports Club/LA’s vice president for fitness, told the New York Times.

Gyms have begun a collaborative effort to promote the device and incorporate the results.

Life Time Fitness and Equinox are two gyms at the forefront of the technology push, with many more expected to fall in line.

Pretty soon, they’ll all be watching. Like it or not.
