Fitness is Not a Destination it is a Way of Life

Leave the daily grind (and all the stress) at the door!

14703503_SThe daily grind can really bog a person down. We all experience stress every day — that’s an absolute. Some types of stress are easier to put into perspective than others, but another absolute is that exercise can make a significant difference in your mental health. You don’t need to be a top athlete to experience the remarkable benefits of exercise.

Science documents the way exercise affects our minds. Working out releases chemicals called endorphins that help you feel good. Many people report feeling greater levels of confidence in their personal and professional lives after exercising. Remember – this doesn’t have to be running a long distance or biking 50 miles. It can be as simple as going for a walk after dinner.

Another point in favor of some good old-fashioned exercise – sleep! You will find that your sleep will be of better quality and come much easier after a workout. Certainly we can all appreciate the feeling of a great night’s sleep.

Time spent either competing with a friend in a sport you enjoy or joining in on a fitness class will take your mind off other worries. Shift your focus, even if it is just for the brief span of time that you are engaging in physical activity, from all the things you need to do today to the breath going in and out of your body or the energy you feel as you move. You may find that at the end of it, you’ve completely forgotten the things that were weighing you down before.
