Fitness is Not a Destination it is a Way of Life
5 ways to take your workout on the road
Sometimes life gets hectic and we can’t make it to the gym. Or maybe you plan to take a vacation and want to stay on track. Either way, you should make sure you have this inexpensive and portable gear on hand:
- Exercise mat: Yoga mats are cheap and easily rolled up when not in use. Mats can be used for any kind of exercise where you don’t want to slip around on the floor. Try folding a mat up for extra padding when doing crunches or stretches on the floor.
- Stability ball: These oversized balls work your core and offer almost limitless strength possibilities. They are great for strength work and stretches. Stability balls come in different sizes for your body type and weight, so look for the size that is right for you.
- Resistance bands: Perfect for all levels of fitness, these are just oversized rubber bands that come in different resistance levels. Change the resistance by doubling up the band. They are easily stored away and out of sight, which makes them ideal for travel too. Choose secure anchor points both high and low (think furniture and doors). Keep your movements are slow and controlled.
- Dumbbells: Dumbbells are another great, portable tool. Try incorporating them into almost any movement, using the weight that is best for your level. Dumbbells are awesome when used in conjunction with the exercise mat and stability ball. Be sure to use slow, controlled movements and focus on even breathing.
- Jump rope: This tool isn’t just for playgrounds anymore! It’s inexpensive and gives you a cardio workout like you can’t imagine. Like many of the other listed items, look into some more unusual ways to use the jump rope and a more fun and exciting workout.
If you don’t already have some or all of these pieces in your home, what are you waiting for? Integrate the tools into your existing fitness routine or discover new ones by searching online.
